DOXA review (1) | Quartz 600m Professional

When I began to collect watches I also decided for a producer’s theme. Almost by chance my choosing was towards DOXA. The first from my collection was a Synchron quickly followed by a pocket and a wrist Anti-magnetic. Some time ago with the help of a colleague from the forum I added to the series, Quartz 600m Professional from the Aubry Freres SA period. If the first 3 (to which I care very much) are found relatively often in collections, being somehow common models, Quartz 600m Professional is a "rara avis". With this watch I decided to begin a series of short reviews dedicated to Doxa watches.

In 1978 after a successful story, of almost 90 years long, the company was bought by Aubry Freres SA. At the middle of ’80s in an attempt to resuscitate the famous DOXA SUB, this variant was borne, initial suspected to be a
franchenwatch. Unfortunately, the intension of re-launching the SUB brand failed and together with the Aubry versions, sometimes during 1992-1993, the period of glory of the first DOXA SUB generation started in 1967 was ended. In 1992 Aubry Freres SA has sold the company to the DOXA supplier of cases known under the name of Jenny Family. At 35 years after launching, in 2002, the SUB models started to be re-edited in limited series for each year re-launching a model. In 2008 DOXA has challenged its fans in order to create together "the ultimate SUB". The result was SUB 5000 - Sea Conqueror!
More information are available on the DOXA website .

The watch in my collection is presented by Dr. Peter McClean MILLAR in his book
"DOXA SUB - FORTY YEARS 1967-2007" together with other two versions known until now. Meaning:
- Quartz 600 m Professional (blue dial, 60 min. bezel blue-red known as "Pepsi")
- Quartz 600 m Lm Diver’s (dial/ 60 min. bezel black)
- HAI Quartz 600 m Lm Diver’s (dial/ 60 min. bezel silver; in fact a German edition of the one above)
On a German website dedicated to DOXA SUB models -
http://www.doxa-sub.com/berichtaubry.html where the information appear to be ulterior to the appearance of Dr. Millar’s book, a fourth version is present (also with silver dial):

- Quartz SUB 600 Searambler.

All of these models don’t have anymore the famous orange dial so characteristic to the DOXA diving watches and starting point of a current named by some "orange mania".
The watches were initially equipped with metallic bracelets also with a DOXA characteristic design.

The watch in my collection - Quartz 600m Professional (attached pictures) has made the current revision at
ceasornicar.ro in June 2008, it presents itself in very well conditions of functioning, maintenance and sealing. It has in this moment two “assorted” belts, one of rubber (New Tropic type) and one of leather "water resistant" Marcco.

Dimensional the watch (for comparison a "fashionable" Monster) presents itself:

The markings on the watch’s cover are:

The watch movement is ETA 955112 (attached images in the right column), at the interior the screwed case lid being marked "BREVET + 503305".

The watch was evaluated by dr. Millar at around 700,- USD considering its condition but also the fact that only 2 (two) samples of this version are known so far.
